I enjoy the HCC most for the relationships I make and knowing folks personally before the stress of emergencies make it much harder to work together.

Partnerships, support, resources

As we all felt and dealt with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Our community had widespread destruction with downed trees, power poles snapped in half, downed power lines, homes destroyed, and roadways impassable.

As a result, we lost all communication.  We add no internet, phones, and damage to our Comms antenna. We ran on emergency power for approximately 72hrs. Employees were unable to get into work.

With all communication down, and no internet service we put in a request to deploy our Midlands Healthcare Coalition Comms trailer that is housed at Aiken Regional. Soon after the request, I was contacted by Scott Phillips, who had everything coordinated and in place. Including one of his Volunteer Gary to help with setting it up and getting everything connected. Gary was there waiting for us when we returned with the Comms trailer.

We were quickly able to get it sit up and were able to provide data to our Emergency Department. This allowed us to get epic up and running, our comms up and have our emergency department fully operational. This was a huge success and greatly enhanced our patient care to our community.

Thank you to our coalition and his members. This proves the importance of our healthcare coalition and its member for working together and providing assets to our midlands regions and all of SC. Thank you to Gary, who volunteered his time and stayed long as needed to make sure we were up and running and had no issues.
